How to write a song Part 1
It all starts with an idea or a melody that refuses to leave. So, you start to "mull" it over and over in your mind. As a songwriter, one who has many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many set backs, my mind instantly starts to organize the body of the song. I start to ask myself questions like, does the melody sound like a chorus, verse, bridge or break? What is the song trying to say? I try different melodic approaches searching for the common link. My mind drifts, I start to think about the songs from artists I respect. I analyze what they did in a song I like and try to use some of the same things they did.
